LAXE’S PATRON SAINT FESTIVITIES
Every 17 August, the port of Laxe fills up with people to see the performance of El naufragio. This is a tribute that the people of the sea from the town pay to the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors, for her protection and help throughout the year.
Since the middle of the 20th century. The celebration has been held with great devotion since it was established in 1962 by Avelino Lema Santos, a Laxe sailor who survived three shipwrecks. It is one of the main events of Laxe’s patron saint festivities that nobody wants to miss!
