Views of the Gulf of Artabro

O Monticaño Forest Park

The views of the entire coastline of the Gulf of Ártabro are spectacular from this natural promontory located in Pastoriza (Arteixo). In fact, this strategic location led to the installation of an old military battery (secondary), preserved and out of service, which dominated the entrance to the bay of A Coruña from the south. It gave support to the one on Mount San Pedro.

The entire northern area can be seen from the highest area (239 metres), in the old range-finder station (with which the shots were calculated): the Gulf of Ártabro and the city of A Coruña, passing through the island of A Marola, the coast of Dexo and Mera and reaching Cape Prior. From the viewpoint you can see westward, from Langosteira point with the Outer Harbour to Malpica with the Sisargas islands almost “glued” to the mainland.

It should be remembered that the Outer Harbour was the first major infrastructure of the 21st century, motivated by a maritime disaster such as the Prestige oil tanker accident (13/11/2002) off the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death).

Taking advantage of the slope. O Monticaño Forest Park (4.4 hectares) is a large open-air green space with free access, grills and several children’s areas with all kinds of games. Zip line included!
