Blue Path

Carnota

This eight-kilometre route along a flat coastal strip links the Lariño lighthouse with Boca do Río. It offers excellent, spectacular views but, above all, memories of shipwrecks, of the collective memory, and of the usual solidarity of the people of the sea.

The path starts at the foot of the lighthouse, where there were two shipwrecks of small boats from Carnota. Leaving behind Ximprón beach, another point zero of the Prestige catastrophe, and Os Miñarzos Marine Reserve, of fishing interest, we must stop at Ardeleiro beach. Here there is a commemorative monolith and the anchor of the frigate Ariete in memory of the shipwreck (26/02/1966) of this Navy ship.

Epic rescue operation. Lira’s neighbours came to the aid of the Ariete’s crew, helping them to save their lives in the middle of the night with very few means. Numerous tributes and public acknowledgements have been extensively documented for this almost epic rescue, which you can read about here.
