Remains of a military battery

Mount San Pedro

The special location of this natural promontory (142 m) makes Mount San Pedro a privileged natural viewpoint over the bay and the city of A Coruña. At its feet, the islands of San Pedro.

Like Monticaño, San Pedro was an old military battery from the interwar period (first half of the 20th century) integrated in the network of coastal batteries of the Gulf of Ártabro. The defensive complex was made up of four main artilleries in Campelo, Prior, Lobateiras and San Pedro that shielded, above all, the entrance to the naval base and the military shipyards of Ferrol. They were supported by four other secondary sites, with smaller calibre pieces, in Monte Campelo, Prioriño, Prior and Monticaño. Incidentally, none of these coastal batteries ever fired in military combat.

Unique in Spain! In this peri-urban park (9.2 hectares) is the Atlantic Dome, a panoramic elevator in the shape of a 360º glazed sphere that runs along 100 metres of slope on rails.
