Capricious orography

The Tower of Hercules peninsula

Numerous shipwrecks have occurred in this stretch of coastline of capricious orography, such as La Isla, the Pilar Blanco, the Rhinoceros or the Rytterholm. This chapter of the history of the sea of A Coruña contrasts with its great natural beauty, as can be seen in a long promenade around the peninsula of the Tower of Hercules to the mount of San Pedro with the Atlantic as a companion.

Right in the deepest part of the sea stands the Tower of Hercules, declared a World Heritage Site (27/06/2009) and the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world. Built by the Romans, it dates from the second half of the first century or the beginning of the second century. Of its 55 metres in height, 34.38 correspond to the Roman construction and 21 to the restoration of 1789. When the Tower was built it was far from Brigantium, the Roman city that would give rise to A Coruña, and today it is integrated into one of the great green spaces of A Coruña, the sculpture park of the Tower of Hercules.

Under the light of the oldest lighthouse. Have you ever walked through this open-air museum that stretches along the Torre peninsula, Herminia Point, O Acoroado and Cabal de Pradeira over 47 hectares?
