Matthew Cay Bell

Fishing Museum of Finisterre

The rich underwater heritage of the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) is materialised in this unique piece kept in the Fishing Museum of Finisterre. The bell of the merchant steamship Mathew Cay (23/09/1887) was recovered in the A Carraca shallows, 3 miles off Cape Finisterre. The shipwreck was located by Buceo Finisterre, one of Rimartes’ partner dive centres.

San Carlos castle (18th century), the space where the Fishing Museum is located, is also an attraction for your visit. It was built as part of the defensive plan of the estuary of Corcubion together with the Prince’s castle in Ameixenda (Cee) and the Cardinal’s castle in Corcubion.

Symbolic enclave. The Fishing Museum of Finisterre is located very close to the fishing port and a short distance from Cape Fisterra, the “end of the world” in ancient times and currently, the end for the Camino de Santiago. The visit is a journey through time!
