Os Meixidos Shallows

Os Meixidos Shallows.

Between the estuaries of Corcubión and Muros lies one of the most dangerous points along this stretch of coastline, the Os Meixidos shallows which, together with their brothers Os Brullos and A Ximiela, stretch out like a minefield some 4 miles from the nearest coast. If in normal visibility conditions they are difficult to locate, in bad weather they were, and are, a nightmare for any sailor entering this area.

Their dangerousness has led to the loss of numerous ships such as the Larache, Skyro, Ter, Cardenal Cisneros; and worse, they have cost countless lives among the seafarers and passengers of the ships that had the misfortune of colliding with them.

Viewpoints over the sea. From land, Os Meixidos shallows are visible along the entire Carnota coastline and, from the other side of the estuary of Muros-Noia, from the top of the viewpoints of Enxa, Caamaño or Tahume in the municipality of Porto do Son.
